SharePoint Services on Vista? Holy Intra-Extra Nets Batman!
by Don Burnett
In our own community of Silverlight users, there is a lot of demand already for folks who know how to create Silverlight application for Share Point. But there are some things that can get in the way of development. Mostly today the requirement is that you have a SharePoint server environment to develop on. Well most small developers can't spare the machines to make this happen easily. So one answer to all of this is virtualization, such as Virtual PC or Virtual Server.. However this does take up a lot of extra space and CPU not running native to your host OS..

Just when you thought all was lost and your pocket was going to be permanently empty until that project was done.. In steps Bamboo Solutions with an unsupported solution that will allow you to install SharePoint Services directly into Windows Vista X64/x86...Over at the Bamboo Nation blog, they have documented you with how to do it. Now this is in truly an unsupported HACK.. But it works and will allow most all functionality. This cuts corners for you in both time and potential compatibility. So if you decide to try this, please remember that the best software you produce is TESTED software. That means there is no substitute for a hearty round of testing (if you attempt development with this) on the genuine SharePoint Server itself..
Check it out, this may save you time and money if you have to do work in SharePoint this maybe an answer for very limited work..
