Even Some Hardware from Microsoft Falls through the Vista x64 Cracks
Well I hadn't seen one of these on the shelf in years, and it was half price so I purchased it just to review the technology. I always like playing with recognition devices to understand better how they work. I am disappointed that with this one I probably won't get to play with, because after this long it still doesn't have a 64-bit Driver compatible with Vista x64. Even Microsoft's own pages let you know that they do not support this with anything other than a 32-bit operating system. I remember Microsoft used to offer this built-in to a keyboard and you could buy a number of laptops with this functionality built in. With the current x64 Vista popularity I doubt we'll ever see a driver and software for this, but with Surface coming around this type of technology may see renewed interest. Of course this reader wasn't good for real security but it still offered a good way to restrict access to your computer by normal users..
